Some of these chemicals imitate toxins produced by psychiatric illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and post traumatic stress disorder. However, there are still anecdotal reports of individuals using bath salts to treat such symptoms as headaches, indigestion, stomachaches, and body pains. It is important to remember that allergic reactions can develop even when using low amounts of essential oils.

When considering the therapeutic benefits of bath salt, it is also important to consider how bath water is processed. Typically, bath water is treated with baking soda and other ingredients before it is used. This is done because certain chemicals, such as Epsom salt, can react with chlorine present in tap water to produce chloroform gas, which can be unhealthy and can trigger asthma attacks. Although there is no evidence that bath salts have an effect on health, people who avoid the risks of using Epsom salt should use bath salt to avoid exposure to chloroform.

Using bath water to soak into the skin has also been shown to be beneficial. Salts, whether they are made from sea salt or from baking soda, have the ability to dissolve fat. This makes them an excellent ingredient in weight loss and detox diets. For this reason, some individuals choose to add a little salt to a recipe as a special treat–this can be used as a delicious and effective alternative to sugar or artificial sweeteners.

In summary, using bath salts to treat conditions like chronic foot pain, shin splints, and headaches may be an effective treatment option.
