History
Carnival Cruise Line was founded on March 11, 1972, by Ted Arison, who launched the company from Miami with a single ship, the Mardi Gras, a former transatlantic liner bought from Canadian Pacific Line. Arison had partnered with Meshulam Riklis to finance the venture, but regulatory issues led Riklis to sell his stake back to Arison for $1 in 1974.
