History and Location
The site has been a racetrack since November 1974, when it opened as Keystone Racetrack, replacing the earlier Liberty Bell Park. New ownership renamed it Philadelphia Park in 1984 after adding a turf course and an early phone-wagering system. Greenwood Racing, Inc. -- founded by British bookmakers Bob Green and Bill Hogwood -- bought the track in December 1990 and built it out with simulcasting and a network of off-track Turf Clubs. Pennsylvania's slots legalization opened the door to a casino: Parx received its conditional slots license in September 2006 and opened in temporary space that December, before the permanent casino building opened on December 18, 2009 with more than 3,300 slot machines. The property was renamed Parx Racing and Casino in August 2010, the same year table games launched. A $50 million expansion in January 2018 added the 48-table poker room and Xcite Center, sports betting followed in 2019 along with online gambling, and the Parxview Hotel -- the property's first on-site hotel -- opened March 26, 2026.
