Hexbreak3r -- also written Hexbreaker 3 -- is the third entry in IGT's long-running Hexbreaker franchise, a Halloween-flavored slot built around a tug-of-war between bad-luck and good-luck symbols. The original Hexbreaker debuted with a distinctive 3-4-5-4-3 reel shape and 720 ways to win; a 2015 sequel, Hexbreaker 2, carried the theme into online casinos. Hexbreaker 2 followed in 2015, aimed primarily at the online casino market rather than physical cabinets. Hexbreak3r is the most recent entry and the first to use a persistent-state design, where the state of the reels genuinely carries information from spin to spin instead of resetting.
All three games lean on the same superstition-themed symbol set: bad-luck icons like a black cat, the number 13, a broken mirror, and a black raven, set against good-luck counterparts like a four-leaf clover, a horseshoe, a ladybug, and a white cat. The Hexbreak3r logo itself serves as the game's wild symbol, substituting for regular icons across winning combinations.
Hexbreak3r's signature mechanic is a set of five reels that expand and contract independently, each ranging from three rows up to eight rows tall. Landing horseshoe symbols grows the affected reels upward, working toward a "Luck Zone" at the top of the screen where the bigger prizes, including a shot at the progressive jackpot, sit. Because each of the five reels can be a different height at any given moment, the total number of ways to win swings enormously over the course of play -- anywhere from a base 243 ways up to a maximum of 59,049 ways once every reel is fully expanded.
Hexbreak3r offers five fixed bet levels -- 80, 160, 240, 320, or 400 credits -- which typically translates to roughly $0.80 to $4.00 per spin at a penny denomination, though actual cost varies with the denomination a given casino has set.
